Grim Van Doom werden nicht auf dem Kill The Plastic Smile 2018 spielen. Wir haben uns diese Entscheidung nicht leicht gemacht und viel diskutiert, sind aber letztlich zu dem Schluss gekommen, dass die Festivalkombination aus In Flammen Open Air, Party San Open Air und dem Kill The Plastic Smile, wie es die Band geplant hatte, für uns nicht tragbar ist. Auf beiden Open Airs spielen (nicht nur dieses Jahr) Bands, die mit Nazisymbolik, homophoben, rassistischen und sexistischen Texten sowie Holocaustverharmlosung arbeiten. Wir als politisches Festival in einem Autonomen Zentrum sehen uns da deutlich auf der anderen Seite des politischen Zauns und möchten jegliche Berührungspunkte vermeiden. Wir werfen allerdings Grim Van Doom nicht in einen Topf mit den besagten Bands Taake, Watain oder gar Impaled Nazarene, oder werfen ihnen eine ähnliche Gesinnung vor. Dennoch lässt uns die mangelnde Sensibilität für das Thema und eine fehlende, deutliche Abgrenzung gegenüber den besagten Bands und deren Fans sowie dem Veranstalter keine andere Wahl als eine Absage des Auftritts bei unserem Festival.

Grim Van Doom will not play the Kill The Plastic Smile Festival. We had a hard time making this decision and did a lot of discussing but in the end came to the conclusion that the festival-combination of the In Flammen Open Air, Party San Open Air and Kill The Plastic Smile -as planned by the band- is too much for us to handle. Both festivals (and not only this year) are opening their stage to bands playing with nazi symbolism and work with homophobe, racist and sexist lyrics as well as belittlement of the holocaust.
We as a political festival in an autonomous centre see ourselves on the far other side of the fence and want to avoid any contact points.
We nevertheless do not want to lump Grim Van Doom together with bands like Taake, Watain or even Impaled Nazarene as far as politics and ideoligy is concerned. Still the lack of sensitivity for the topic and clear statement against the named bands, promoter, the audience and fans leaves us no other choice than to cancel their participation in our festival.
